This one summer is a graphic novel by Mariko Tamaki, which encourages healthy conversations about growth and sexuality. Merrill Jaffy, one such critic and scholar, states that it is "a powerful resource and starting point for a healthy, open and threat-free discussion of strongly challenging life issues." I am saying. Asian Americans grow up reading other books, including Asian protagonists. This novel shows that it is okay to be curious as a child while teaching patience, self-discovery, and compassionate lessons. Another reviewer argues that educators and parents should help their children read novels so they can understand their topics and lessons. Another scholar and critic, Corine Doiron, states that the novel is for high school students. Because they nostalgically read the attempt to grow and equate it with Rose and Windy.

This One Summer was also censored for the content of the novel, and due to its sexual scene and use of adult themes, it was listed in the American Library Association's Top 10 Most Challenged Books in 2016 and 2018. The novel has also won numerous awards, including the 2015 Caldecott Medal. I personally really liked the story behind the graphic novel and would totally recommend it.
