If you have ever read A Good Girls Guide to Murder, this is pretty similar. In the sense that it is about a crime, having to do with a teenage girl and that some chapters are in Podcast format. In this Book there is a lot of violence discussed, mostly against women. We follow Sadie, the main character, through the story as she’s trying to avenge her sister. In the Book there are some references made to the fact that she was raped by her stepfather when she was younger, once you get to the and its pretty clear that this is true, because of all the T-shirts she finds. It made Sadie very closed off, she didn’t trust anybody and would also refuse to talk about it. There is not one scene where she tells you what happened, just flashbacks to those moments. And the closest people to her couldn’t even tell what happened, that shows how dangerous our real world. You may think you know somebody, and you would never believe they were able to do something so awful, but then it happens, and you don’t know what to do. The most important thing is that all the victims go to a therapist, I Know it can be scary and I’m not talking about going to the police but talking to someone about this is important, so it doesn’t leave to deep of scars in the future.

Something that always goes together is poverty and violence. Every book or movie showcases this. Where there is poverty, there is violence. It’s as if poor people cannot do anything else. And on one side that is true, because most of the time they are fighting for their life to survive this world. At the start of the book, it also talked about the fact that when you are born in that town, there is now a way of getting out. When you are born you get some card delt and that’s what you must play with. If generations after generation shows the same amount of violence, how is the circle ever supposed to be broken?

True Crime Podcast have gained popularity in the last years. A lot of people have become fascinated with dead, me included. I can only say for me, that the most fascinating thing about listening to it, is that thought that a human being, someone like me is capable of killing a person for pleasure. I want to know how their minds work. As a listener I want to know all the details, but I do understand that the journalists have a form of obligation towards the victim and the family, to not share everything. They shouldn’t be put through that. So, keeping discreet details, so as not to further upset the family, is important.
